Alberta’s Client-Directed Home Care Invoicing: How it Works and How to Get Started
Client-Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI) is Alberta Health Services’ newest senior home care program. This new initiative allows seniors to choose their own home care service provider for personal care, housekeeping, meal preparation, and respite care. For families currently receiving funding from the Self-Directed Care program or other community-based home care programs in Alberta, the CDHCI offers improved access to care without administrative responsibilities.
CDHCI Explained
CDHCI is designed for seniors who require personal care and other services to ensure optimal health and safety while living at home. It provides funding for various senior home care services, including:
- Assistance with activities of daily living, including bathing, mobility, and medication administration.
- Housekeeping services such as cooking and cleaning.
- Respite care for primary/family caregivers.
While other programs in Alberta require seniors or family members to hire their own caregivers, handling everything from training to payroll and tax compliance, CDHCI is much easier to manage. Seniors in this program are able to have their services directly billed instead, meaning they get access to the same services without the additional administrative duties.
